The members of the board of alder men, the merchants and business men of the town, and all who are interested in the growth of Brevard and Transylvania county are urged to be present. The meeting will prove interesting and profitable, and there should not be a vacant seat in the court room when it is called to order. At this meeting the part, which Brevard shall play in the movement for the co-operative advertising and upbuilding of Western North Caro lina will be decided upon and a committe appointed to attend the meeting of the representatives of all points in this entire section' at Asheville on Tuesday of next week. At the . banquet given by the Asheville Board of Trade on Mon day of last week this movement was started. At that time there were present in Asheville repre sentatives' of fourteen places in Western North C^olina in addition to the Asheville people present. Every place represented made pledge foTy heArty (^-o|)eration in in the plan suggeBtiSd, iikt Brevard must make good along with| the others. Briefly stated, the plan of cam paign as suggested is that all the towns and sections of Western North Carolina*’ shall get together in one of the greatest advertising campaigns ever attempted in this section of the country. Bach place will contribute a certain amonnt toward carrying out the work, and an organization is to be effected with a responsible head whose duty it will be to boost the interests of the whole of this section without special stress on any one place. By uniting in sharing the expense Asheville, HenderspnviUe^ Waynes- ville, Brevard and every other place in this section which joins iki the efiortcan obtain better results at materially less cost than, these places have been able to get in the past by their individual efforts. The effort to attract summer peo ple will not be the only one of^ the organization, tho^h it is probable tliat a great deal of attention will ^ given to this part of the pro gram. But it is also intended to ^ake a campaign for additional capital for new industries in this section and also for new settlors* people who will come and locate in tMs section. The plan as napped out promises J^nch of good for the entire section. Brevard must have its share in the ^ork. It is worth while. AU the of the town should not fall to Jttend the meeting at the-court o^se at four^ o’clock on Friday ‘Afternoon. Theineeting should be one full of enthusiam and one ^ ^hich something definite is ac- ^oinplished. Three weeks means in days just eighteen more in which you can work if. you have firmly Qiade up your mind to win one of the splen did prizes offered, lliat is not so very many, bht within that time niuch can be accomplished;. Just some work, and anyb9dy can get in the^ running and secure onv» of the grand five first prizes which the -News is gc^ng to give away. You see, ttie proposition is sim ply this, how would you like^ to have either a t^or made, suit of olotlr^s, a gold watch, a Majestic range, a Bock Hill^ bugg^, or even the grand ea^tal ^ze, the Milton piano^; WQold like; to havB'oiW t)?things without any ezpeaise to yourself you c«,n get 6ne> of them. I'he News will give it to you absoli:^ly free. The only thing you have to do is to see your friends and acquain tances and get them to subscribe tO'the News, and for each subscrip tion you secure you will receive vote^ for yourself in the contest, and it will not t^ke so very many to reach one of the first five places up at the he^’of the column. Notice to With Wednesday night of next week cjoses the- sixth we^L in the News Gifeat Popularity Contest. At the beginning of the contest to each one of "the candidat^ who received a nomination the News gave one thousand votes. In the six weeks wliich the contest has been running a number of the candidates have not increased this number of votes. Upon all of these the management of the News now desires to serve notice diat if any candidate on next Wednesday night has not more than one thousand votes to his of her credit, then the, name of that candidate will be dropped from the list of coht^tants. There y^t remains three weeks of the conte^ and in that time effective t^ork may be done by many pf the candidates who have not ye^ done anything, provided they will ^o a little work in their neighborhoods. We want to^ agitin caM attention to the Ifact "that the prizes offered in each township is worth working for, and there is a good chance for any of the'candidates who have low votes to win one of these prii^es. These are extremely good rocking ckairs, made of oak with leather bottoms. Do not simpi^^ lay down on the job. See some of your Mends this week and by next Wednesday night you can make a goc^ showing. Brevard lodge No. 224, Knightt' of Pythias, with about twenty ^five charter members, was formally in stituted Tuesday evening, the pro- ' deedings being in charge of State Deputy Grand* Chancellor, James p. Nutt of ^Wilmington and District • Deputy Grand Chancellor, F. O’C. Fletcher of Asheville. The following officers were elected > to serve for the term ending Decem ber 31. , 'Chancellor Commander, J. S, ^romfield.^ , - ' Vice Chancellor, M. M. Chapman. Prelate, R. B. Wilson. Keeper of Records and Seal, Ora L. Jones. Master at Ai^s, W. M. Bradley. Master of Finance, W. L. Wiley. ^ Master of Exchequer, S. M. Macfie. Master of Works, T. L. Snelson. Inner Guard, D. D. Bracken. Outer Guard, R. L. Gash. Lodge Deputy, R. L. G^h. . The following four men were r^sed to the rank of Past Chancel lor, W. M. Bradley, S. M. Macfie, T. L. Snelson, and Ora L. Jones. E. W., Carter,, R. B. Wilson and R. L. Gash were elected represen tatives of the lodg^ to the meet- District which convenes at Tryon on Thursday of next week. ' The new lodge, while in reality a ' new one, is almost a re-organisation of the the old lodge, Transylvania No. 143, which died a natural death. The charter of the old lodge was t^en up by the Grand Lodge some months ago, and since that time there has been a quiet but deter mined effort on foot to re-establish the Pythian orde^ in Brevard. Members of the old lodge can ob- tain cards, and place them with the new lodge. The Keeper of Records and Seal and the Lodge Deputy will be glad to furnish' any infor mation, and assist them in comply ing with all needed formalities. The new lodge begins its life with about twenty five men. All of these with the exception of two are old members of the order. Messrs. Durward ^racken and R. B. Wilson are the new initiates, these having been given the three degrees on Tuesday night. The Pythians will ,fneet every Tuesday evening. DEATH OF CLYDE HENDERSON. Many friends aind relatives were sorely grieved when the sad intel ligence of the death of Clyde Hen derson reached them a few days ^noe. His father died when he was quite small, leaving the bur den of support of himself and two younger- brothers on a widowed mother almost penniless.' She was a brave, good mother and Clyde was indeed a worthy son. He, from hia earliest childhood, did everything in' his power to help and comfort mother. While his young life was encum- 'bered with the hard problems con fronting him, yet Clyde was always cheerful and happy, never com plaining of the cares and hardships l^e wds carrying by force of cir cumstances. He leaned on that Christian mother whose hope was in Him who takes care of the widow and orphan. From boyhood ^to youngmanhood Clyde had and merited the respect of all, and when he left his native home and cast his lot in the Palmetto State he carried with him the friendship and love of ' all who knew him. And as he became identified with the people of another state it was^ Vi? m Contimieq on page 3.
